Overview

The client, a big industrial manufacturer, required an easy-to-use Android application for warehouse workers to replace bulky expensive handhelds that they used. The app should help warehouse staff locate parts quickly and easily by utilizing smart search functionality and an advanced filtering system. The app was a part of the global digital transformation strategy the aim of which was to create and independent solution that would be secure and scalable to accommodate business growth requirements.

Challenges

While implementing the app we encountered the following challenges:

• UI/UX of the app should allow an easy search of parts and components with just a few taps
• Queries to the DB and the API should be optimized for the quick search results
• The app should work offline utilizing cache functionality as some areas of the warehouse have wifi blind spots
• The solution should be seamlessly integrated into the existing infrastructure to facilitate quick access to the DB maintaining security at the same time

Solution

We designed and implemented a light-weight intuitive Android application that worked in both portrait and landscape modes for the best search and view experience. The app utilised SSO for the easy access to the DB and secure communication protocols for data safety.

Quick implementation and easy onboarding allowed the customer to introduce the new solution quickly saving significant amounts on the expensive old-fashioned handhelds.
